Why We Exist

Our government is currently under the influence of people who often claim to act in accordance with the principles of Christianity. If this were the case, Earth Standing Still would have no need to exist. But it is not the case at all.
George Bush claims to be Christian. In name, perhaps. However, he is certainly not a good Christian, nor is he a good person in the eyes of any major tradition, whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist... Why is this so?
All major religious traditions have at least one great idea in common: The Golden Rule. That is, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Would anyone who truly believed this order the actions that Bush has ordered? Sending US soldiers to fight without good cause, approving torture, allowing the poor to suffer (as in Hurricane Katrina) while making the rich richer with tax cuts — none of these are the actions of a person who treats others as he would like to be treated. Further, a government headed by such a person, carrying out his policies with little opposition, is also not a good government. And since the government of the United States is a democracy, this is a direct reflection of its citizens.
People of good will who believe strongly in the principle of the Golden Rule and the basic idea of our Declaration of Independence — that we all are created equal — need a means to have their will carried out. Earth Standing Still provides such a means.
